Project “ARKTIKA” New Generation of Nuclear Icebreakers
Corporation Rosatom announced it 2 days ago.
During the marine trials, the tuning of the parameters of nuclear propulsion vessels, structural characteristics, reliability of equipment and ship systems was checked.
The 22220 Arctic Icebreaker was built by Rosatom State Corporations at the Baltic Shipyard in St. Petersburg. The Arctic is set to launch in 2020.
Two more serial 22220 icebreakers, Siberia and the Urals, are currently under construction in the Baltic Shipyard. In addition, in August this year, Rosatom and Baltzavod signed a contract to build two more serial nuclear icebreakers for this project.
Universal nuclear icebreakers have installed 171 and 2×171 MW reactor installations will be the largest and most powerful in the world, and are needed to secure Russian leadership in the Arctic.
The length of the ship is 173.3 meters, width is 34 meters, displacement of 33.5 thousand tons. These icebreakers will be able to guide ship convoys in the Arctic by breaking through at high speeds up to three meters thick. It will ensure the passage of hydrocarbon vessels from the Yamal and Gidan Peninsula fields and Offshore installations in the Asia Pacific markets.
With positive anxiety, we monitor the outcome of testing in the real case.
